Welcome to all of my Moms who have kiddos with diabetes:

Today’s question is: Does having a child with DIABETES create a sense of fear in you?

It did for me. What emotion does diabetes create in your life? Do you feel like you are in control of your emotions? I didn’t feel in control for the longest time…but guess what? The best thing is that every emotion is created by a thought….your thought.

So NO PROBLEM if you’re feeling unmotivated or uninspired…if you need an emotion, whether it be excitement, motivation, or inspiration, you can create it. WHAT???  That’s crazy right?

The foundation is that all emotions are created by a thought. So whatever emotion you are feeling now is created by a thought. Ask yourself what you want to feel instead??? Then decide what you need to think and believe in order to create the emotion you want.

Thoughts either create positive emotion or create negative emotion. They are OPTIONAL. What emotion do you want to create in your life?

This isn’t to say that you want to or are supposed to be happy all the time, because honestly there are some days I just want to hate diabetes. I just want to blame diabetes, but most days I want to be courageous, motivated and thankful.

Upon diagnosis I was definitely was afraid of so many things. So I started out creating positive emotion from fear. Fear of what diabetes might do to my family. Fear of what lies ahead.

I didn’t want to feel the fear so I created a positive emotion from the fear of feeling negative emotion. It just didn’t work. I couldn’t use enough will power to resist the negative emotion enough to make it feel positive.

Finally I practiced just being with the negative emotion –without reacting, without resisting. Just being with it. It took practice. It took time. I developed a skill set.

I realized I had to feed my brain thoughts, believable thoughts, that would produce the feelings I wanted. What thoughts are you feeding your brain? Are you trying to use willpower to change your thoughts from a place of fear?
