Welcome to all of my Moms who have T1D kids!

Today’s question is: Is your mental health a priority?

Honestly, my mental health has not always been a priority…but it should have been. There were years I was too busy, too overwhelmed, and too exhausted. But I’ve journeyed from that point in my life to build a life that I am proud of… married 37 years to a man who loves me unconditionally, mom to four of my best friends, Lolly (grandmother) to one joy filled grandson, business owner of a river adventure company (Lander’s River Trips), and a passion for the T1D community (Yep a Certified Life Coach, too.)

The journey has not been easy or comfortable but it’s been worth it.

I’ve built a life in which I now prioritize my mental health while continuing to grow and evolve for myself, my family and my community. I now intentionally create results I want in my life, plan how to overcome the obstacles, get out of my own way, and achieve them!

This takes time. I did not take that time. I lived on default for years. I encourage you to learn from my mistakes. Take time to plan your life intentionally.

Creating a positive relationship between myself, my T1D son, and diabetes was my goal. That was my compelling reason to uplevel my life. Now I want to share the concepts I used to do that with all of you. That’s why I started a blog? Why I spent the last 18 months practicing my life coaching skills and taking on clients? Why I take time from my busy life to teach moms who have T1D kids?

I do it because I never prioritized my mental health and now that I do…my life, my family’s life, my future, my family’s future is incredibly bright and I want to spread that light to all moms.

I want to help you to see the results of what I teach. I want to help you to know how to manage the issues of  your T1D child – the social isolation, the frustration, the confrontations. I want to help you to be able to control the overwhelm, the anxiety, the exhaustion. I want to help you be a Rock Star Mom…because that’s who I believe you are.

I want you to know that you are stronger than anything that can happen to you. Here are some of the concepts I teach:

I teach emotional management. When you learn this skill, you take responsibility for your life, and get all of your power back.

I teach about relationships. Your relationship with yourself determines your relationship with diabetes and your T1D child. I teach about setting and keeping boundaries, about how you have manuals for other people and yourself, and I teach about unconditional love.

I teach about belief systems. The problem is that so many of us can’t question our own thinking because we are so ingrained in our own beliefs. To explore new beliefs about diabetes. To bombard your brain with new thoughts that might serve you better.

I teach time management. The key to managing your time is managing your mind. You are incredibly powerful when you are laser focused on results you intentionally want to create. Most people don’t take time to discover what they want.

I teach outcomes and goal setting. It’s so important that we give our brains something to work on and focus on. When you focus on a goal that stretches you, you ask yourself to become more of who you are.

I teach the concept of taking massive action. That means you take action until you get the result you want. You take action despite feeling uncomfortable or doubtful. You take action despite failing.

I teach about purpose and contribution. Don’t let diabetes keep your from living a life of purpose. We all have the ability to create value in the world. All value, all inventions, came from someone’s brain.

I teach about eliminating buffering. It’s one of the most important things I can teach. Buffering is where we use pleasure to disconnect from our consciousness and causes us not to contribute, produce, and create value.

I teach The Model! It’s the foundation of my teaching. It was developed by my Master Coach, Brooke Castillo from The Life Coach School and it is a way of looking at the world and organizing your brain (your thoughts.)
